Abed Mahfouz | Day 2 | Fashion Forward Dubai | Hai at Dubai Design District
Every girl dreams of being a princess at some point in her life. For most of us this aspiration ends at childhood, but imagine having the talent to conjure up beautiful gowns season after season to allow those dreams to become a reality for many women.
For Abed Mahfouz, this is just the day job; making breathtakingly beautiful gowns and offering seasoned journos on the FROW a moment of escapism and fantasy. As with Michael Cinco before him on day one, Mahfouz’s showcase delighted his audience by making the dress the focal point, celebrating it in all forms.
Sheer chiffon creations floated up and down the runway, embellished cape dresses added a touch of dramatism to the proceedings and full on ruffles encapsulated the romanticism of the whole collection.
It would be hard to pick a favourite given the scale and magnitude of the range. Each piece flawless, each garment enhancing the model’s own natural beauty. We found ourselves snapping furiously as they swept past us, trying to take in all the detail.
However, there’s always a moment or two in the procession where you physically feel the room electrify and become more alert. In Mahfouz’s showcase this happened multiple times; the instant when his take on the stunning high-low hem trend for the season came stalking down the runway in baby blue and sparkling orange and again during the finale, when his partnership with Lux took on a more physical presence.
Presenting the first dress made entirely of soap was certainly an interesting concept and as the model glided past us, the perfumed scent of Lux was palpable, lingering in the air long after the encore.
This was a triumph for sophisticated glamour and we have no doubt many women will be reliving their princess fantasies this season, thanks to Mahfouz’s undeniable genius.
