Only 292 Porsche 959s were ever built, which makes the inclusion of the Paris-Dakar rally model in this year’s Gulf Concours event a rare treat for car enthusiast and collectors.

With a top speed of 318kmph, the Porsche 959 was crowned as the world’s fastest production car when it was launched in 1985. But even before the first road legal models were delivered to their eager customers, the rally version was winning international acclaim.

In 1986, a modified off-road version of the 2.8-litre turbo, six-cylinder car sealed first and second place in the Paris-Dakar rally. The world’s most grueling race sees drivers follow a 14,000 km route from the French city to the capital of Senegal in West Africa.

Another superb example of the German carmaker’s pedigree on show at this year’s Gulf Concours will be Porsche’s stunning 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series.

With a limited build of only 500 vehicles, the special model is the most distinctive, not to mention powerful, Porsche 911 Turbo S to date.

The striking sports car boasts a 3.8-litre, six-cylinder biturbo flat engine capable of speeds of up to 330 kmph. The 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in an incredible 2.9 seconds.

On display alongside the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series will be Porsche’s 911 GT3. A firm favourite with motorsports fans for its ability to handle both race tracks and regular roads with ease, the GT3 shares a production line with the thoroughbred Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

As a result, the GT3’s four-litre, six-cylinder engine is virtually the same as the race model, delivering 500 horsepower and a top speed of 318 kmph. A combination of power, precision and lightweight construction – the GT3 comes in at just 1,430 kg – helped the two-seater to win over legions of 911 fans.

This year’s Gulf Concours event will also feature Porsche’s flagship SUV, the new Cayenne Turbo. No stranger to the roads and highways of the UAE, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo pairs the comfort and style of a luxury family vehicle with the carmaker’s legendary high performance.

The third generation of the popular SUV boasts a new four-litre biturbo engine capable of reaching 286 kmph and accelerating from 0-100 kmph in just 3.9 seconds, while the interior of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo has been carefully designed to increase the connectivity and comfort of the driver and passengers.

Around 50 more luxurious vehicles will be on show this year, including a 1922 Mercedes SSK, an ultra-rare 1936 Cord, and a 1951 Series 1 Land Rover.

Gulf Concours will also welcome a panel of distinguished judges who will cast their expert eyes over the cars on display.

The judges will include HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Sandra Button, Chairman of Pebble Beach, and Johnathan Proctor from the Selection Committee at Concours of Elegance, and classic and the esteemed classic car collector and Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens ambassador to the Middle East, Ronny Karam.

A well-known figure in the region, Mr Karam is in charge of the Classic Car Commission at the Automobile and Touring Club of Lebanon. His automotive knowledge is second to none, and he has served as a judge at numerous classic car shows in the UAE, Kuwait and in France.

Car collectors and enthusiasts from across the Middle East will attend this year’s Gulf Concours event, said Rory Heron, Director of Desert Gate Events LLC, the event’s owners and organisers.

“With so many rare and exotic cars on display, this year’s Gulf Concours promises to be a very special event.

“We could not have hoped to have so many stunning examples of unique and classic cars on display. We are sure this year’s exclusive event will be a truly wonderful experience for everyone in attendance.”
