A Mama/Daughter Valmont Facial at The Talise Spa, Jumeirah Burj Al Arab | Review

Mama life can be relentless. Between work, school-runs and the 5000 daily tasks – and all with never-enough sleep, our skin and general wellbeing often takes a beating. And then there’s the perpetual guilt associated with believing we don’t spend enough time with our kids or with doing anything for ourselves. But what if you could tick all the boxes, create special memories together with your daughter while also rejuvenating your skin (and your sanity?).

The Talise Spa at Burj Al Arab offers it all through a new partnership with highly revered luxury Swiss skincare brand La Maison Valmont and a very special mama/daughter facial.

An iconic brand meets an iconic spa

Valmont is the epitome of luxury skin care, with ingenious formulations an innovative approach combining traditional Swiss expertise with scientific research and ingredients. One of the key elements that sets this brand apart is its use of advanced cosmetic ingredients and active ingredients including the Valmont DNA, triple DNA, and RNA, derived from cellular research to help rejuvenate and protect the skin at a cellular level. Yes this may sound complicated but in a nutshell the experts at Valmont have taken anti-aging and skin care to another level, gaining a loyal fan base of those-in-the-beauty-know who recognise something special when they see it.

The brand believes in a personalised and holistic approach to skincare, considering individual needs and preferences – perfect for my 11 year old daughter whose notion of skincare is a visit to Sephora and her 40-something mama whose skin was in severe need of a little tlc. And where better to experience the magic than at the Jumeirah Burj Al Arab’s luxurious facilities?

A sanctuary of serenity, high above the glittering Arabian gulf and Dubai skyline, a visit to the Talise Spa is special enough as it is. Through the eyes of an 11 year old, taking in the dancing fountains and gilded corridors as we made our way up to the 18th floor of the iconic Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, it was even better. Welcomed by kind and smiley spa staff, treated to tea in beautiful china cups and whisked off to a luxurious changing area where the fluffiest robes and slippers awaited, the experience begins much before the actual treatment itself.

Usually reserved for grown-ups, the world of facials has been opened up to tweens and teens with a specially created ‘Mademoiselle Valmont My First Facial’, a 60-minute introduction to skincare accompanied by a soothing hands and feet massage. And at the Talise spa, mums can book in for a treatment in the same room at the same time, making this a really lovely shared experience. I opted for the ‘Lift From The Peaks’, an anti-aging facial designed to ‘defy the laws of gravity’ and bring that plumped, youthful feeling back to your face, neck and décolleté, promising to help restore my skin’s lost radiance and get it back on track.

The Talise/Valmont experience

Robed up and ready, we made our way to a treatment room where floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the sparkling waters of the Arabian Gulf and where two ultra comfortable massage beds awaited. Soothing music and a traditional foot wash ritual set the tone for instant zen – but the real magic happened during the facial itself. As the therapist cleansed, exfoliated, massaged and masked my skin into pure bliss, I managed to sneak the occasional peek at my little girl lying next to me with her eyes closed, enjoying her very own facial with a smile on her face and the occasional sigh (I think she actually fell asleep!). Tailored to young skin and addressing any concerns (breakouts etc), the ‘Mademoiselle Valmont My First Facial’ is all about ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience and is designed to be gentle and informative, introducing tweens to the importance of skincare in a fun and relaxing way.

Unlike facials that rely on heavy fragrances and exotic oils, the products used are virtually fragrance-free, making them perfect for all skin types and the treatment also includes a hand and foot massage to help de-stress and promote relaxation – which, for my little worrier, was just perfect.

My facial incorporated a multi-step process to achieve optimal results and relieve stress in areas of the face showing superficial or more pronounced wrinkles (well that’s pretty much my whole face!). A slow, deep-tissue massage based on fascia therapy alleviated any tension and released muscle knots, relaxing and toning to fight wrinkles and give the face a lift. With products incorporating lifting and firming ingredients, the grand finale incorporates the use of a collagen veil to intensely moisturise and re-plump.

More than just a facial…

After our treatments we were whisked away to  the most incredible pool with insane views overlooking the Arabian Gulf and the sunset over Dubai’s skyline. We chilled, we chatted about our facial adventures and sipped on tea, feeling like we had the whole world (or at least the pool) to ourselves.

Feeling refreshed, pampered and ready to face the world, we emerged from the Talise Spa with glowing skin and a rekindling of that very special mama/daughter bond. More than just a spa day, the opportunity to create memories, to experience the luxury of the Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, Talise Spa and Valmont skincare together was so very special.
So ditch the mama stress and book your escape – your skin and your daughter will thank you for it.
