L’ÉCOLE Van Cleef & Arpels Launches in Dubai

On the 24th of April 2024, the Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and Member of the Executive Council of Dubai, Latifa bint Mohammed, officially inaugurated the first permanent campus of L’ÉCOLE Middle East in Dubai Design District (D3) supported by Van Cleef & Arpels alongside with other international location: Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.


Established in 2012, L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, aims to present the public with a prestigious jewelry school that is marking a significant milestone in planning to expand globally, enhance its impact in the region, and engage a wider audience by highlighting Dubai’s rich cultural diversity.


L’ÉCOLE offers 13 public courses and three major fields including the historical study of jewelry, the realm of gemstones, and the mastery of jewelry-making processes. Accompanied by a regional opening exhibition with 100 masterworks from three millennia of Chinese goldsmithing, including crystal and gold nuggets that highlight the precious metal’s natural shape, “Gold and Treasures: 3000 Years of Chinese Ornaments” that will take place from April 26th to August 10th.


The ceremony in D3 had been visited by prominent executives, namely Nicolas Bos, Global President & CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels; Lise MacDonald, Global President L’ÉCOLE, School Jewelry Arts; Alessandro Maffi, President of Van Cleef & Arpels Middle East & India; and Sophie Claudel, Director of L’ÉCOLE Middle East. 


During the occasion, Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum emphasized the growth of Dubai’s representation as a global center for innovation and design, attracting organizations, corporations, and brands from around the world. “Dubai offers an environment that fosters business enterprise and creativity and provides opportunities to exchange expertise in various creative fields. The establishment of L’ÉCOLE’s first headquarters in the Middle East in Dubai underscores the city’s pivotal role in the creative industries and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation”.


L’ÉCOLE courses will be taught by experts in the fields of Art History, Gemology, Jewelry Craftsmanship, and Artisanal Skills where students will mainly be taught through practical use, enabling them to participate in hands-on experimentation of gestures, skills and tools under the guidance of their lecturers. Moreover, it provides other activities such as exhibitions, publications, videos, podcasts in person and online discussion along creative workshops.

In addition, L’ÉCOLE provides programs for students to travel abroad for talks and exhibitions to Europe, America, Asia, and the Middle East that encourage jewelry culture’s awareness on a global scale.
