Taking place at Emirates Palace Gallery, Portrait of a Nation brings together the UAE’s leading contemporary practitioners to reflect upon their homeland from individual artistic perspectives. Celebrating 20 years of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF), this exhibition features 20 especially commissioned artworks alongside 30 other works by Emirati artists. Divided in 7 different thematic areas in the exhibition, the 50 artists explore the topics of Nation & Unity, Geography & Nature, Architecture & Urbanism, Portraiture & Identity, Religion & Spirituality, Language & Calligraphy, and Tradition & Heritage. From large–scale indoor and outdoor sculptures to paintings, drawings, photographs, collages, videos and installations, Portrait of a Nation captures the ever changing face of the visual arts in the United Arab Emirates today.
