Bringing the streets of Japan to life at the iconic Shangri-La Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, ONI Japanese Restaurant and Lounge has officially opens its doors to the UAE.
ONI brings an exquisite medley of Asian flavours under the masterful leadership of Chef Mohamed Islam.
ONI welcomes diners to indulge in decadent Japanese cuisine, with the menu having been created by firm award-winning chef and CEO of ONI, Chef Mohammad Islam, who aims to deliver more than just good food as he works with his talented team to curate culinary experiences set against an ambient restaurant backdrop. Ingredients at ONI are sourced from Hokkaido, Japan’s ‘hakodate asaichi’, which means ‘morning market’, further enriching the authenticity of an ONI meal. Guests are invited to sample menu highlights such as fresh, hand-rolled sushi, succulent robata and beautifully spiced ramen.
The idea behind the new dining concept is to create authentic, varied dishes mixed with warmth and friendliness, lined with a laid-back vibe, all in a bid to create a sense of place and community for diners. “ONI is more than just quality food,” states Islam, who has worked under the wing of four-star chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten. “ONI is culinary creativity at its best, straight from fresh ingredients to an attractively plated dish. ONI is about creating a dining atmosphere that is comfortable and unforgettable. ONI is an ode to street-style delicacies from Japan and its star flavors and styles, while it celebrates connections and unity,” Islam adds.
With the LA Times chiming in on Islam’s career by comparing his cooking to Alice Waters, owner of Chez Panisse, a California restaurant famous for pioneering Californian cuisine, and developing Dubai’s very own Atelier M, it is most certain that his new venture, ONI, is set to be the new talk-of-the-town-spot.
