We have curated your Luxe List of what to see and do at Meet D3 2016 this month.
Meet D3 is three days of outstanding and innovative design, art and culture celebrations at Dubai Design District — the city’s design and creative hub. Open to all and free to attend, Meet d3 brings together over 50 activations, installations and performances from across the worlds of art, design, fashion, music & food to bring you the ultimate celebration of creativity. Guests of all ages will also enjoy a range of dining options and an outdoor market, featuring original and unique pieces in a festival environment that promises to delight and inspire. With music performances from regional and international talents, along with an exclusive set of performances curated by Red Bull Music Academy, Meet d3 is set to be a truly memorable experience for all the family. Meet D3 is free to attend (for all ages) with no pre-registration required.
Emirati curator and artist, Rami Farook, will team up with Kuwaiti artist and designer, Nanu Al-Hamad, to bring together a ground-breaking group of emerging creatives from the UAE and GCC for an exhibition that reflects the future of creativity in the region (see below).
Nakkash Gallery & d3 present a disruptive public art installation, dispersing 100 ‘Chic Sheep’ around the district during Meet d3, as a symbol of new beginnings and promise of the future. Artpieces designed by d3 partners will also be auctioned to the public to benefit the Al Jalila Cultural Centre (see below).
Alongside the display of their finest rugs woven, Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI) will be hosting an interactive carpet weaving workshop at Meet d3 and completing a large carpet with the efforts of the entire d3 community (see below).
For some family artistic fun, do not miss Shrumen Lumen – a garden of gigantic origami-inspired kinetic and interactive mushrooms that change colors and shape in response to your movements (see cover image).
Get your little ones acquainted with road safety in style with the fleet of 20 mini electric Audi R8 Spyder models giving children an entertaining and educational ride on an interactive course featuring road junctions, traffic lights, road signs and roundabouts.
On the photography front, the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) is excited to inspire our youth to capture moments and participate in the Soorah Challenge. Visit the HIPA kids zone for photography contest instructions and a chance to win!
Music and Performances
From local, regional and international acts performing on the main stage to intimate performances at the different spaces across the festival’s venue, Meet d3 brings together a diverse roster of music, dance, theatre and various performance art across genres, instruments and technology. From DJs, producers and musicians, to performances actors, dancers and experimenters, Meet d3’s programme reflects the sonic and cultural landscape, regionally and globally.
On Friday evening Jess Glynne, the breakthrough UK singer/songwriter, will headline Friday night’s musical program with her distinctive vocal flair in a live show that Billboard calls “a downright delightful eardrum elixir” and Calum Scott, the English singer / songwriter who grabbed worldwide attention with his breakthrough performance on Britain’s Got Talent and his incredible rendition of “Dancing On My Own”, will play the Meet d3 main stage.
Cinema Akil presents for the first time in the world, an experimental ciné-concert combining Techno/Electro-Sha’abi music from Egypt in synchronized harmony and improvisation against Fritz Lang’s timeless silent film classic Metropolis.
Lifestyle and Retail
A specifically curated section that will house collectable design, furniture and interior items, clothing, accessories as well as other unique retail vendors. Here, emerging and established designers from across the region will showcase bespoke collections and limited edition products.
The red Fendi Ape car, a version of the Italian iconic three-wheeled truck, will be parked at Meet d3 showcasing some of the brand’s most popular products.
Armani/Casa, reflecting Giorgio Armani’s vision of the living space, features a collection ranging from furniture to accessories, and from fabrics to ornaments and lighting. The Bungalow by Faux pop-up features their Autumn/Winter 2016 Collection, which aims to connect the up-and-coming brands to the style-savvy through an innovative space.
The Beauty Room is a limited time pop-up by Chalhoub featuring the trendiest beauty brands, hyper-fun activities, and the bright pink ‘La Pâtisserie Des Rêves’ food truck. N-Bar, the middle east’s first brand for dedicated nail bars will deliver it’s trademark ‘fast glamour for nails’ at it’s nail art pop-up shop during Meet d3.
A global movement to energize, support and unite runners across cities and connect them to a global forum, Adidas Runners is a community open to anyone looking to inject fun into their routine as they train to get fierce and perform strong. The home for Adidas Runners in Dubai is Runbase d3.
Food and Drink
Meet d3 presents an extensive range of restaurants, cafes and pop-ups from Dubai and across the world ranging from haute dining to street food delights. Expect a range of experiences includin
g food installations and science, celebrity chefs, culinary performances and importantly, the opportunity to just experience really great food!
Harper’s Bazaar Café is the first café by the Hearst published magazine. The café offers specialty food and beverages, as well as interiors that reflect the magazine’s focus on high-end fashion and style. The café will be offering a special gold latte during Meet d3.
Visit the Mirzam chocolate makers during Meet d3 and explore the maritime spice route by way of the stars – with single origin chocolate tasting sessions.
