FBMA International Show Jumping Cup

Thursday 1 March, the 5th edition of the FBMA International Show-Jumping Cup is set to get underway at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort, Abu Dhabi.

As the event organizer, the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy has now completed its final preparations, as this year’s edition looks to celebrate five years of successes and excellence. There will be unprecedented participation of local, regional and international eventers with over 180 riders set to compete. Over the three days there will be six competing classes for female and male, local and international, young and adult riders similarly to last year’s competition with prize money totaling AED 650,500 up for grabs.

The annual FBMA International Show Jumping Cup, which is open for the public from 8am to 10pm and free of charge to attend and will see the return of the popular activity zone “The Equestrian Village”, establishing the Cup as a leading global equestrian event, which is growing from strength to strength over the years.

The fifth edition will be held under the patronage of her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union, Chief Executive Officer of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Higher Council for Motherhood and Childhood “Mother of the Nation” and the guidance of H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and the President of the Abu Dhabi and the Al Ain ladies clubs.

Al Jaber further emphasized on the significance of the expansion of the event this year to cater to all members of the local community, as the fifth edition of the Cup will witness the return of the “Equestrian Village”, an interactive village full of fun and educational equestrian activities, following the tremendous success it achieved last year as the whole family enjoyed their time at it. Featured activities include equestrian inspired games and pony rides, all geared towards a fun day out that encourages children and youth to engage with horse-riding. Aside from the horse riding, there will be live music, art displays and market stalls, providing leisure and entertainment for all throughout the Cup. Visitors will also be able to feast on a range of food trucks, with plenty of healthy options and also the odd well-deserved treat, including Moloko, Yellow Brick Road, Burcinni, Al Qout and Manoo’s Bakery.

This weekend’s event is supported by Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), the Emirates Equestrian Federation (EEF), Abu Dhabi Media (ADM) and sponsored by Al-Shira’aa Stables and Etisalat, the event provides a special platform for female riders and showjumpers across the UAE and abroad.

The first day will witness children aged 12-14 years old competing for the opening trophy of the event in the CSICH style class, juniors aged 14-18 years old competing in the third mixed category CSIJ, a National Special Category for UAE and International Female Riders class for ladies only and finally CSIL2*, the International Ladies only category competing in this 2–star class. The first day’s sponsors include Healthpoint, FBMA, Al-Shira’aa Stables and Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and Zahrat Al Khaleej.

The second day is devoted to the remaining categories of the CSICH, CSIL2 and CSIJ style classes, as well as the CSIYH1 category (sponsored by Al Forsan International Sports Resort), which will see young horses (6-7 years), in the 1 Star Mixed competing.

Continuing into the final day, we will see the young riders aged 16-21 years old compete in a mixed category in the CSIY-A class along with the remaining CSIYH1* category. Final day sponsors include Longines, Etisalat and the Al Forsan International Sports Resort.

With higher levels of participation than ever before, this weekend’s prestigious event first held in 2013, the FBMA International Show Jumping Cup has enjoyed significant regional and international recognition, highlighted by an official endorsement from the International Federation for Equestrian Sports in 2015. Beginning as a ladies-only event, the competition recently expanded to include categories for men and children. The FBMA also commended the Show Jumping Cup as an important platform to enhance Abu Dhabi’s position in the arena of global sports, as a global sporting capital.
