We are pleased to list the highlights of the programme of events taking place at Dubai Watch Week at DIFC this month from 16 to 20 November 2017.
Launched in 2015 by Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, Dubai Watch Week is a global platform dedicated to the preservation of horological culture and heritage by creating one of the largest non-commercial events for the international watch community, providing an intimate environment for collectors, brands, watchmakers and the members of the media to interact and share knowledge. Held under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, Dubai Watch Week supports those who have dedicated their life to the pursuit of horological perfection.
Programme Highlights
Classic & Contemporary Exhibition
Date: 16 – 20 November 2017
Time: 10am to 8pm
The revival of classical craftsmanship and contemporary techniques will be the focus of the main DWW 2017 exhibition. Visitors will be able to discover the evolution of the watch industry through the presentation of timepieces from heritage and new brands. On display will be vintage timepieces, new models or designs inspired by historical watchmaking or techniques.
Telling Time Exhibition
Date: 16 – 20 November 2017
Time: 10am to 8pm
Curated by Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH), Telling Time is the representation of works and timepieces by contemporary artists and designers, which all shares the same desire to tell time. All these pieces mark the passing of the hours, and in doing so remind us of time’s unstoppable march.
Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève Exhibition
Date: 16 – 20 November 2017
Time: 10am to 8pm
The only globally recognized independent international awards for excellence in watchmaking; the “Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève” (GPHG) annual travelling exhibition will enable visitors to discover the competition’s prize-winning models to discover and admire the year’s finest watchmaking creations.
Watch Craft Master Class
Date: 17 – 20 November 2017
Time: 11am to 8pm
The watch craft workshop is a new program that will be launched during the third edition of Dubai Watch Week. The workshops will be hosted by some of the most renowned master-craft men and women who will provide attendees with the opportunity to try their hands at some of the most iconic watch related crafts and techniques. Each session can accommodate maximum 9 attendees and is only accessible by invitation.
Watchmaking Master classes
Date: 17 – 20 November 2017
Time: 11am to 8pm
Hosted by some of the watch industry’s most respected watchmakers, the watchmaking master classes will give attendees the opportunity to learn first hand the art of assembling timepieces. Accessible by invitation only, the master classes will be held each day during the Dubai Watch Week where the attendees will be able to attend sessions held by the celebrities of the watch industry. Each session can accommodate maximum 9 attendees and is only accessible by invitation.
Creative Hub
Date: 17 – 20 November 2017
Time: 10am to 10pm
The Dubai Watch Week 2017 Creative Hub is presented through a series of talks that are designed to foster creativity and showcase innovation. This will include a wide variety of subject matters that will vary from social media initiatives, creative writing workshops, new product launches and limited edition watch reveals. The events and launches at the Creative Hub is only accessible by invitation.
The Mastery of Time Virtual Experience
Date: 17 – 20 November 2017
Time: 11am to 6pm
The Mastery of Time is a virtual experience in multiple chapters that puts you at the center of watchmaking’s milestone inventions. Become a sailor in the nineteenth century and plot your position at sea before the invention of GPS; board a steam locomotive with nothing but your pocket watch to keep you running precisely to schedule, locate survivors at sea from your plane and find your way back with a chronometer as your only tool. Thanks to The Mastery of Time VR, you can explore the history of watchmaking, play with timepieces and inventions that you will never have the opportunity to hold for real, and experience them at the time they were created.
Horology Forum
Date: 17 – 20 November 2017
Time: 11am to 7pm
The Horology Forum will bring together leading watch curators, authors, historians, writers, collectors, brands and industry professionals. This year the forum will bring together more than 30 international speakers covering topics such as Smart Watches, Digital Curators, 100 Years of Watchmaking and What Makes the Value of a Watch. The horology forum is free and open to the public, however pre-register is required due to limited seats.
The Auction Room
Date: 17 – 20 November 2017
Time: 11am to 6pm
In collaboration with Christie’s, Dubai Watch Week will launch for the first time in the region the “Auction Room”. Visitors will be presented with the opportunity to learn about the interesting and challenging world of auctions. Divided into three segments, the auction room will provide visitors with the opportunity to evaluate their watches, attending master classes, learn how to bid at auctions and kids will be given the opportunity to bid at a family day auction.
