Read our review of Michelin-starred Chef Eric Frechon’s afternoon tea at Café Antonia at Le Bristol Paris

Le Bristol Paris, a stone’s throw from the Elysée Palace in Paris, stands on the chic and fashionable rue du Faubourg St Honoré. Opened in 1925, Le Bristol is one of six uber luxurious hotels in Paris awarded the official “Palace” status, one higher than 5 stars.

With the opening of Café Antonia, Le Bristol Paris completes a renovation that started in 2010 and continues to host a cosmopolitan clientele, mingling artists and gallerists, fashion and media celebrities, and business people.

As we enter Le Bristol Paris, we are greeted warmly by assured staff. We love the light pink and white marble interior and the rich scarlet carpets in the lobby and adjoining spaces that are in keeping with Parisian tradition. Generous and beautifully executed flower arrangements majestically adorn tastefully placed antique consoles.

We are here to discover Michelin-starred Chef Eric Frechon’s afternoon tea. As we are seated in the Café, we note the serenity and elegance of the decor. We take in the warm colours, oak parquet floors, murals by Maison Frey which all create a warm and intimate atmosphere.

First we are invited to choose from a wide selection of coffees, Chinese and Japanese teas and herbal infusions. We are then presented with a sumptuous looking 3-tier cake stand. The first thing we notice is the beautiful and well though-out colour theme, in keeping with Le Bristol’s house style. The wild strawberry tarts bring a touch of red, the pistacchio macaroons bring a vibrant lime green and the lemon tarts bring a rich yellow. The colours and tones echo the interior design colour palette throughout the Café and the hotel’s branding.

We are delighted with the savoury selection, particularly the vitello, club sandwiches and croissants au saumon. The French-touch scones give their English cousins a run for their money and the honey and lemon madeleines are delicate and not too sweet. The whole selection is masterfully balanced and delicately composed.

Whether Middle East travelers are looking for a chic meeting venue while in the city or to be seen at the most exclusive settings over afternoon tea or simply taking a break between luxe shopping, Café Antonia has something for everyone.
