3 Sneaker Brands To Have On Rotation

Last season was all about the Samba. Every FROW attendee, every fashionista, and let’s face it, nearly every human, had a pair. It’s not hard to see why they continue to be so popular; simple, minimalistic, affordable, and once broken in, pretty comfy.

The versatility here is also key. They work with a maxi skirt as well as jeans and slacks. At a time when we’re all trying to make our wardrobe a little harder, the reissued 1947 SAMBA filled a gap admirably.

That being said, we can have too much of a good thing. So, what are the new ‘it’ girl sneaker brands to invest in this season?

1. Adidas

Featuring heavily on our hit list thanks to new colourway updates in their Gazelle and Spezial ranges, and a brilliant new collaboration with Wales Bonner, adidas is once again adorning the feet of the fashion pack this Spring/Summer.

  • Gazelle – A chunkier alternative to the Samba, the suede low top is an elevated take on what was once created as an indoor football shoe. There’s something charmingly retro about the colours – hot pink and navy, blue, burgundy and green – which shouldn’t work for today’s more pared back aesthetic, and yet, the pop of colour is very welcome! Their collab with Gucci also plays into this fun, sporty 70s model direction.

  • Spezial – Originally released in the ’70s as an indoor sports shoe, the Spezial is truly timeless. For this season, we recommend investing in more neutral colours – cream or mushroom – to have on rotation, and if the budget allows, we love the oat/buttermilk and dark brown colourway too.

  • Wales Bonner – Leopard print is having a moment, so naturally, we’re big fans of the ponyskin addition to the Samba collaboration launched earlier this year. It’s not just the Samba which has been worked over by the talented London designer either. SL72, Nizza and Japan have also been given a glow up. And for Spring/Summer 2024, she has reimagined the adidas Samba Millennium in white and brown leather. Less flamboyant than previous collections, we like the change of direction for this season.

2. Asics

With a reputation for being a solid running shoe, Asics has slowly been crossing over into fashion territory. It’s becoming more commonplace for performance brands to be viewed as a lifestyle option too, and with the likes of Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber among fans of the Japanese brand, Asics is set to feature more in off-duty model wardrobes undoubtedly.

Our pick for the season is the GEL-Kayano 14 ‘Malachite Green’ Sneakers. The pop of green against the metallic lines manages to be both nostalgic and modern at the same time.

3. New Balance

Famous for their mass appeal (‘Worn by supermodels in London and dads in Ohio’) New Balance continues to impress each season, unveiling updated colourways in their popular 574, 230, and 550 models, as well as announcing some seriously cool collabs. On our radar right now, is the 530SL partnership with Miu Miu – the sleek mole colour and flat sole is EVERYTHING, while Aimé Leon Dore X New Balance 860v2 in ‘White’ is  understated luxe at its best.
